WASHINGTON – May 11, 2022 – Lisa Rice, President and CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance, issued the following statement after the Senate confirmed Julia Gordon to serve as Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Commissioner and HUD Assistant Secretary for Housing:

“We extend our sincerest congratulations to Julia Gordon on her confirmation as HUD’s new FHA Commissioner. Ms. Gordon is a highly regarded housing and mortgage expert, with an unwavering commitment to equity, who brings a wealth of experience to this role. Over the years, she has effectively engaged a broad range of stakeholders to develop and implement solutions to some of the nation’s most difficult housing problems including those stemming from the 2008 foreclosure crisis and Great Recession.

She is dedicated to ensuring people have fair access to housing opportunities. We need Ms. Gordon’s principled leadership at this critical moment as our nation faces rising housing costs and shortages, lack of credit for small-dollar mortgages, continuing inequality, and increasing interest rates that impact consumers’ ability to access affordable housing and credit. Ms. Gordon has the expertise, discernment, and depth of knowledge needed to effectively manage FHA’s broad housing portfolio and we are confident she will ensure the agency lives up to its purpose of helping expand homeownership and housing security for everyone.

We appreciate all the senators who voted to confirm Julia Gordon. Our nation and economy will be better for it.
