Nation’s Leading Fair Housing Organization Applauds Confirmation of Merrick Garland as Attorney General
Washington, D.C. — Today, Lisa Rice, President and CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA), issued the following statement on the Senate’s confirmation of Judge Merrick Garland to be Attorney General of the United States:
“NFHA applauds the confirmation of Judge Merrick Garland to serve as Attorney General. He is the ideal candidate to serve as the nation’s top law enforcement official during this challenging moment in history.
“Judge Garland is a devoted civil rights advocate—from leading the sexual harassment and misconduct initiative in the federal court system to defending workers against employment discrimination. Judge Garland is incredibly well-equipped to vigorously enforce our nation’s civil rights laws, implement the reforms our justice system urgently requires, and restore the integrity and independence of the Justice Department.
“Judge Garland can now begin the difficult task of placing justice back at the center of the Department of Justice’s mission and helping to rebuild public confidence in the federal government’s ability to protect and defend our rights. We look forward to working with Judge Garland and the Biden-Harris Administration to fight for a more equitable society and to ensure equal housing opportunity for all people.”
