Washington, D.C.—The U.S. faces a triple pandemic: the COVID-19 health crisis, the ensuing economic crisis, and the crisis of racism that has long plagued our nation. This situation has brought structural inequality into laser focus. In response, the National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) will propose solutions to this grim predicament at its 2020 conference — The New Reconstruction: Creating an Equitable Society through Structural Transformation.
“We’re at a pivotal moment for creating systemic change for the betterment of everyone in American society. We can either chart a new course toward a more just society in which all can flourish, or we can retreat to the policies of the past, maintaining the unproductive status quo of discrimination and inequality,” said Lisa Rice, president and CEO of NFHA. “Our upcoming conference will bring together some of the world’s most prominent thought leaders who will provide bold recommendations for eliminating discrimination and building diverse, thriving communities for all Americans,” Rice added.
During the virtual conference, a diverse group of experts and activists will present solutions for preserving affordable housing, achieving environmental and climate justice, closing the racial wealth and homeownership gaps, and advancing racial equity through economic measures. NFHA will also highlight one of its star initiatives, Keys Unlock Dreams, and hold a timely session on disparate impact.
