NFHA Issues Statement on the Nomination of Alanna McCargo to Lead Ginnie Mae

Washington, D.C. — Today, Lisa Rice, President and CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA), issued the following statement on President Joe Biden’s nomination of Alanna McCargo to serve as president of Ginnie Mae:

“We enthusiastically welcome President Joe Biden’s nomination of Alanna McCargo to lead Ginnie Mae. Throughout her career, Ms. McCargo has demonstrated a strong commitment to racial equity and developed policies for racial equity, including expanding access for underserved groups. Recently, she played a key role in helping to lead the Black Homeownership Collaborative prior to her appointment as senior advisor to Secretary Marcia Fudge at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

“Prior to joining HUD, Ms. McCargo was vice president for the Urban Institute’s Housing Finance Policy Center, where her research focused on barriers to homeownership access, the Black-White homeownership gap, and addressing wealth disparities — all issues that are integral to NFHA’s fair housing mission.

“As we continue working to address the persistent disparities in housing caused by our government’s centuries-long history of discriminatory policies, we are also contending with existing inequities that are exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis; in light of this, we are eager to have someone with Ms. McCargo’s research background and ability to create equitable solutions at the helm at Ginnie Mae. We look forward to working with her to advance fair housing for all people in this country.”
