Washington, D.C. –  In response to the Senate Banking Committee’s vote to advance an historic slate of nominees to the Federal Reserve Board and the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Nikitra Bailey, Senior Vice President of Public Policy, National Fair Housing Alliance, issued the following statement:

“We congratulate the exceptionally qualified and historic slate of nominees who were voted out of the Senate Banking Committee. Chair Jerome Powell, Vice Chair Lael Brainard, Dr. Lisa Cook, Dr. Philip Jefferson, and Acting FHFA Director Sandra Thompson are poised to make excellent additions to the Federal Reserve and FHFA.

“Families want the Senate to be deliberate in its advice and consent role while providing equal treatment in reviewing the nominees’ credentials. A fair process will allow them to trust the agencies’ decisions knowing they are working to strengthen the economy for everyone. As the country faces rising inflation, increased housing costs, and widening wealth disparities, we need a full slate of governors on the Federal Reserve and a confirmed director at the Federal Housing Finance Agency to continue the important work of creating full employment, expanding access to safe and affordable credit, and reversing the trend of the historic rise in inflation.

“These are very complex times for an economy whose historic growth is clearly not reaching all Americans.  We have global threats to our nation’s economic vibrancy and it is essential we have outstanding, diverse leadership in place at the Federal Reserve Board to meet these challenges. We urge the Senate to move swiftly and confirm these nominees.”
