HUD Acting Secretary Todman’s Leadership Receives Praise from National Civil Rights Organization

Washington, D.C. –  Today, Lisa Rice, President and CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance® (NFHA™), released the following statement on the announced resignation of the Acting U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Adrianne Todman:

“Today, with gratitude and admiration, we honor the service of Acting HUD Secretary Adrianne Todman. During her accomplished tenure, Acting Secretary Todman’s leadership has been defined by a commitment to creating strong, sustainable, and inclusive communities with affordable homes for all. Since taking on the Acting Secretary role in March 2024, Todman led department-wide initiatives to address the nation’s housing shortage by increasing the supply of fair and affordable housing, bringing a secretary-initiated enforcement complaint, expediting funding opportunities for local fair housing enforcement agencies, increasing HUD’s staff to ensure the agency can meet the needs of the American people, improving disaster response and recovery efforts, steering climate and resiliency efforts, and ensuring HUD was accessible to all. On an operational level, Todman took on the tedious and often undervalued work to improve the agency’s financial management, improve hiring and workforce engagement, uplift employee morale, and enhance other important operational functions like risk assessments, critical IT infrastructure, and contracting protocols.

Over her distinguished career, Acting Secretary Todman has been instrumental in the fight for fair and affordable housing with decades of experience working in housing and community development and a long track record of advocacy at the national and local level. We applaud her leadership and commend her for her invaluable service to the people of our nation.”

Nikitra Bailey, Executive Vice President of NFHA, said the following:

“We commend Acting Secretary Todman today for her accomplished tenure at HUD and her lifelong commitment to improving people’s lives through housing and strong community development. Under her leadership, HUD has made affordable housing a top priority, upholding fair housing and pushing for policies to expand homeownership that have strengthened our economy and allowed more individuals and families than ever to realize their American dream.

We thank Acting Secretary Todman for building on Secretary Fudge’s progress at HUD, and all they did together to ensure everyone could live in resource-rich communities with the life-affirming amenities to thrive. Her dedicated commitment to public service has made communities across America more vibrant, inclusive, fair, and just.”
