National Fair Housing Alliance Announces New Chief Operating Officer

Washington, D.C. The National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) is pleased to welcome Kathleen Flynn as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO).

As COO, Ms. Flynn’s primary responsibilities are to oversee financial management, human resources, information technology, and facilities. She will also be heavily involved in helping the board of directors carry out its governance responsibilities, helping lead strategic planning for the organization, and serving as part of the organization’s senior management team.

Ms. Flynn has more than 20 years of non-profit management experience, including budgeting, financial and contract management, compliance, human resources, governance, grant administration, and IT oversight. She most recently served as COO at New Venture Fund, a $1 billion non-profit that supports innovative public interest projects, donor collaboratives, and grantmaking programs through fiscal sponsorship. As COO, Ms. Flynn provided oversight, direction and technical assistance to employees and contractors working on civic engagement, conservation, education, youth development, global health, public policy, global development, and many other important issues. She also helped establish and lead the race, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiative at NVF.

“In addition to bringing an outstanding set of relevant skills to her new role, Ms. Flynn possesses a strong commitment to NFHA’s mission,” said NFHA’s outgoing COO Cat Cloud. “I know she will have a tremendous positive impact on NFHA’s policies, operations, and culture.”

For 32 years, Ms. Cloud has been responsible for supervising NFHA’s programs in the areas of compliance and consulting, membership services, education and outreach, national media, community development, finances, and administration. For 23 of those years, she also served as the “Dean” of NFHA’s Fair Housing School®, training more than 2,000 professionals to support the Fair Housing Movement.

Moving forward, Ms. Cloud will serve as Senior Advisor to NFHA’s President and CEO, Lisa Rice, and will continue much of her program work, including leading NFHA’s national conference, national media campaigns, and publication of the Fair Housing-Fair Lending newsletter. She will also provide support to Ms. Rice and work on various special projects throughout the coming year.
