The National Fair Housing Alliance, With Over 70 Prominent Leaders and Organizations, Deliver a Letter in Support of Dr. Lisa D. Cook’s Historic Nomination to the Federal Reserve Board

Washington, DC — Today, Dr. Lisa D. Cook, nominated by President Biden to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, faces her nomination hearing in the Senate Banking Committee for a fourteen-year term on the Board. Ahead of the hearing, the National Fair Housing Alliance and more than 70 prominent civil and human rights, housing, consumer, labor, and faith organizations and individuals across the political spectrum wrote a letter supporting Dr. Cook’s historic nomination to the United States Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. The advocates highlight Dr. Cook’s stellar background and how her expertise would elevate the voices of Main Street at the Federal Reserve Board.

Dr. Cook is eminently qualified and brings extensive economic policymaking experience and credentials to the Board, including serving on the Boards of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the Board of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis, and as an economist to the White House Council of Economic Advisers. As a champion for economic inclusion, she has dedicated her career to economic research that speaks to the mandate of the Federal Reserve, including identifying structural barriers to economic growth and researching the latest data to understand how to improve innovation in economies. Her confirmation would represent the first Black woman appointed to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in its 108-year-history. Please read the letter in its entirety here.
