Today, we celebrate the 4th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Inclusive Communities Project decision upholding and recognizing Disparate Impact claims under the Fair Housing Act. Disparate Impact supports the obligation that we all have—cities and towns, landlords and real estate agents, corporations and the federal government—to respect and protect equal opportunity in housing. That means avoiding unnecessary policies that discriminate in practice and are rooted in prejudice. Civil rights groups have used Disparate Impact to protect housing rights for survivors of domestic violence, combat lending, and insurance redlining, and secure the development of affordable housing for people with disabilities. However, the Trump Administration is trying to take away this important tool. We must fight to keep the Disparate Impact protection. We must defend our civil rights.
Help us raise the alarm about the attack on Disparate Impact and join us in calling on the Trump Administration to support and enforce strong fair housing rights, such as disparate impact, to protect communities nationwide.
