National Fair Housing Alliance Applauds Confirmation of Adrianne Todman as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

Washington, D.C. — Today, Lisa Rice, President and CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA), issued the following statement on the Senate’s confirmation of Adrianne Todman as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD):

“NFHA congratulates Adrianne Todman on her confirmation as HUD’s Deputy Secretary. Ms. Todman will serve our country and the Department well. She has been instrumental in the fight for fair and affordable housing and has a long track record of outstanding advocacy on both the national and local levels.

“With more than 4 million instances of housing discrimination occurring each year, and the longstanding disparities in housing that have exacerbated negative health and economic outcomes in communities of color during the pandemic, fair housing opportunities are more important than ever. Housing  segregation remains the primary driver of inequality in the U.S., where neighborhoods of color are less likely to have well-resourced schools, living wage jobs, healthcare facilities, full-service groceries, fitness centers, green spaces, and bank branches, but more likely to have hazardous and toxic facilities and polluted land, air, and water.

“With a great leadership team in place at HUD, now is the time to take bold, meaningful actions. We look forward to working with Secretary Fudge, Deputy Secretary Todman, and the Biden-Harris Administration as a whole to implement fair housing priorities to ensure everyone has access to decent, affordable housing in healthy, vibrant, well-resourced communities free from discrimination.”
