NFHA Partners with Census Bureau to Boost Participation in 2020 Count

Washington, DC — The National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) today announced its partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau to help ensure a 2020 count that accurately captures the country’s diverse and ever-changing demographics.
As a 2020 Census Partner, NFHA will ask its 220-plus members across the country to encourage residents in their local communities to participate in the 2020 Census. The ultimate goal is to count “every person living in the U.S. once, only once, and in the right place,” according to the Bureau’s website.
The census provides more than just a population tally, however; it offers insights about where people live, their ages and even how many of them own homes, in addition to much more.
“Accurate census data is extremely important in ensuring that all our nation’s communities have fair representation on the state and national levels, and that they receive adequate funding for schools, hospitals, roads, public works, and other key programs,” said NFHA president and CEO, Lisa Rice.
The upcoming census results will determine the distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds to states, counties, and communities annually over the next 10 years.
The census can also help expand housing opportunity by providing real estate developers and city planners with accurate data to help better inform their decisions about new home construction and neighborhood improvements.
This year’s census questionnaire will become available to the public in March — including online for the first time — with a goal of counting every person in the country by Census Day on April 1. For more information, visit www.2020census.gov.
