The homeonwership gap is growing, particularly for Black consumers. The Black-White homeownership gap is larger today than it was in 1900. The homeownership gap is exacerbating the racial wealth gap. White households have 8 times the wealth of Latino households and 10 times the wealth of Black households. Much of this is attributable to the homeownership gap since over 50% of U.S. family net worth is derived from home equity.
