America Needs a Supreme Court Justice That Will Uphold Our Values

“Now, more than ever, we need a Supreme Court justice who will uphold American values that ensure everyone can have a fair shot.   Brett Kavanaugh is not that person. Despite the fact that the United States has had independent agencies for almost 100 years, Brett Kavanaugh issued an opposing opinion stating that the structure of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) was unconstitutional.  The CFPB was created in the aftermath of the 2008 foreclosure and financial crisis to be the cop on the beat in the financial marketplace, making sure that big banks and other lenders do not cheat consumers or treat them unfairly. It has worked diligently to hold financial institutions accountable and protect consumers, returning over $12 billion to victims of financial discrimination and abuse.  Kavanaugh has also argued that US Presidents should be exempt from being investigated or questioned by a prosecutor – no matter what the President does. These opinions do not square with American values or the principles upon which this country was founded. America needs someone on the Supreme Court who will uphold our laws and protect the rights of those who need it the most,” said Lisa Rice, President and CEO of NFHA.
